Desire for athletic scholarships follows trend of greater opportunities for inter-collegiate women sports

(PRWEB) October 13, 2009 - beRecruited.com - the largest online recruiting network in the U.S. - today announced that in the recently completed third quarter, more than 42 percent of the 82,026 new registered student-athletes with beRecruited were females. That figure represents a 77 percent increase from third quarter 2008.
The trend follows an increasing number of collegiate opportunities for women as a result of the 1979 interpretation of legislation now known as Title IX, which launched dramatic growth in athletic opportunities for women over the past 30 years.
Additionally, beRecruited's registered female student-athletes logged in to update their profiles and respond to inquiries from college coaches more than 300,000 times for the quarter, three times as many as in the same period in 2008.
"With increased opportunities, the need to find the right fit between the student-athlete and college programs is critically important," said Jeff Cravens, president of beRecruited. "The online aspect of recruiting creates efficiency in the process, and both the high school female student-athletes and women's programs across the country are benefitting."
beRecruited now has more than 600,000 registered users, including more than 550,000 high school student-athletes and 18,000 college coaches across 18 sports. To date, the service has generated more than 8 million connections, including more than 4 million in 2009. Female student-athletes were involved in more than 47 percent of the 1.86 million connections in Q3 2009.
